General introduction:

Process of Quantity Surveying and Materials Specifications is a vital quantity surveying (QS) is a professional working environment within the construction industry and engineering projects. It concerned with building costs. It provides a general set of skills, procedures and roles that are then applied to a diverse variety of problems relate to costs and contracts on construction projects.  Quantity surveyors normally reports to Project Manager and provides advice in the decision-making process throughout the management of a project from initial inception to final completion. The materials used on the work shall meet all requirements of the Contract. In order to expedite the inspection and testing of materials, the Contractor shall notify the Engineer of the proposed sources of materials prior to delivery. At the option of the Engineer, materials may be inspected at the source of supply before delivery is started.

Course goals and objectives:

To introduce all participants about process of estimating and tendering in construction projects through deep investigation and analysis of the major aspects relates to the bill of quantities which is a major part of the contract documents. The participants will be introduced to the major issues related to the estimating process, standard method of measurements, work activity description and analysis and material specification. Materials and their specifications and composition used in construction industry along with, forms, characteristics, and cost. Effect on the environment has to be properly specified based on the project requirements, functioning of the project and its components, technical specifications, and standard of quality for the project.
